Erythroblastosis Fetalis—— A MUST read for Rh negative Mothers/ Women

Erythroblastosis fetalis is a severe medical condition that most commonly results from incompatibility between certain blood types of a woman who is pregnant and the fetus.
The condition involves a component of blood called Rh factor found on the surface of red blood cells. Not everyone has this protein.
If a person has the protein, they are Rh positive E.g. O+ve. Those who do not have the Rh protein are Rh negative. E.g. O-ve.
If a woman is Rh negative and the fetus is Rh positive, it can lead to Rh incompatibility and potential complications in the pregnancy such as Erythroblastosis Fetalis.
Being Rh-incompatible isn't likely to harm you or your baby during your first pregnancy. But if your baby's blood leaks into yours (as it can at certain times during pregnancy or birth even if it ends in a miscarriage, abortion or an ectopic pregnancy). Your immune system will start to produce antibodies against this Rh-positive blood and you'll become Rh-sensitized.
So the next time you're pregnant with an Rh-positive baby, those antibodies may attack your baby's blood and cause serious problems like Severe Anemia and Jaundice.
Fortunately, you can avoid becoming Rh-sensitized by getting an injection of a drug called Rh immune globulin
(RhoGAM, RhoD) which should be given at about 28-30weeks gestation or within 72hrs of delivery, if these windows are missed, still give within 28days of birth.
It is slightly pricey so please begin saving/making preps from the day you get a positive pregnancy test! Better to save money for RhoGAM than naming ceremony Owambe.
